This was always a big issue when I worked as a Realtor. Everyone, male and female, was putting themselves at risk by meeting a stranger at a possibly empty house. There were a lot of horror stories about everything from robbery to rape to murder, and they weren't just urban legends. This was drilled into us during our initial training, and our office had policies in place to try and address the safety issue.
That stuck in my head even after I left the real estate business - the world is a dangerous place, and sometimes there will be no one to watch your back for you so you just have to trust your "spidey sense" - go with your gut instinct. Paranoia can be a good thing at times.
Sometimes it's the signer who is paranoid. I had one signing where I was told by the hiring agency that the signer not only asked them to tell her my name but insisted that I had to hold my driver license up to the window in the door so that she could verify my identity before she would let me in. |
