Obviously you're not using a translator - you've taught yourself phrases that will help you communicate with them, and you should be commended for that.
The problem is that if they answer with anything other than "si" or "no", you're going to be in the weeds very quickly. What will you do if they ask a question? If you can't understand them, you can't help them.
I think it's a great idea to want to be able to offer GNW services to Hispanics with little or no English skills, but you really do need to be able to speak their language - at least at a basic level - in order to do that. If you really want to be able to do this, you have to learn to speak Spanish. I would suggest some sort of immersive language course in Latin American Spanish such as Rosetta Stone (not cheap, but very good).
