The information in the box is generically true in most of the US. (Louisiana and Puerto Rico notaries have more authority, so I don't know about those states). I can write that here in the forum, because it's just a general discussion and is not being applied to any particular person or transaction.
But if I write it on a document that I'm notarizing, then it becomes legal advice pertaining to the particular transaction that it gets written in, and applies to the particular people in that transaction. It doesn't matter that it's right; what matter is I'm not a lawyer so it's not for me to make statements like that with respect to a specific transaction. And if I allow it to be present in a document in a document I'm notarizing, in a position where it appears to be part of the notarial certificate, that's just as bad. |
