In the beginning when loan signing became a gig, there were gatherings. (sounds like a tribe of indians, huh?). It was interesting to hear how people got into it, what they did to make it profitable, we had gift giveaways (raffles).
In 2003 a bunch of us went to Ensenada on a cruise for 3 days. It was phenomenal to visit the vineyards and wineries in the countryside. How much was really accomplished on this outing? A lot of drinking and cohorting in the evenings (I'm usually in PJs by 8:30p, right after dinner), we had a few business sessions so we could write everything off, and Kathy and Dave renewed their wedding vows with Shoshana Roller officiating. That was fun. What I learned from that trip is how different we can all be and how folks from different work centers came to become notaries. I'll never forget Peaches, and often wonder what she is up to.
I don't know how many others are still around, besides me, Shoshana, Kelly Robertson who now sells lipstick, makeovers, etc. A couple people have passed away. Lost track of Kathy and Dave Poston after NR bought the Signing Registry.
Then there were luncheons in the Riverside area, those were fun. That's where I met the Expeditor! Surfer guy turned notary, and Janet Berger.
The year that Paul Williamson passed, Barbara Linker in San Diego organized a luncheon in Carlsbad, CA. Wow...she really put it together. Lots of people came, and we had a speaker. Gift baskets were raffled. We had games, and again, a lot of people of varied backgrounds.
Years later, I joined a group called the California Notary Network. We had annual F2F meetings and monthly calls (before zoom). Annual meetings were fun. Bakersfield, Temecula and Sacramento. The group got smaller and smaller over the years. I had the unique pleasure to network with some of the best in the biz and still do. We are all so busy, too busy for just life, let alone travel to meet.
Being F2F, people are a lot nicer, respectful, to each other than on any forum, especially this one of late.
