People will do anything they possibly can to avoid doing the right thing when it is expensive. Notaries get a ton of these questions. Any time they ask you, "Is it legal to..." politely refuse to answer the question and keep saying, "it sounds like you probably need to ask an attorney."
"Well...but do you think it's legal?" -----I don't think. I notarize signatures.
"Well...what if I just blah blah blah...?" -----Do you have anything for me to notarize? 'cos if you don't I have to hang up this phone and get back to notarizin' signatures.
They call notaries until they get one who is deluded into thinking they know what the law says about everything...let them be on the hook for this poop.
