Aside from the fact that mail can be stolen from your mailbox and your neighbor's mailbox (making them not secure), in case you forgot the USPS under DeJoy was wreaking havoc on mail delivery in the months leading up to election day. There was no guarantee that a ballot in the mail was going to get where it had to be in time to be counted. A drop box is different - it only has one purpose, and can be secured.
Also, election boards or county clerks' offices in Texas (or at least this part of it) have drop boxes. The problem is there may be only one for the entire county. Not a big problem in the small rural counties, but in larger counties like Harris and Dallas and right here in Tarrant it's not sufficient. |
