... the idea of the legislature wanting to ensure that no political electioneering, intimidation, or persuasion might be the reason for the passing of the law regarding not allowing anyone to give water, food, etc. to voters in line seems a bit of a stretch. The law already prevented such electioneering within 25 feet of any voter in line regardless of distance to actual voting booths (see Msg #78245 )
I don't think the laws passed by GA could be called "voter suppression" laws. I don't believe that there is one single voter who will only show up to vote if they are provided free food or water. That too, seems a bit of a stretch to call it voter suppression to forbid someone, or a group, from passing out food or drinks to voters in line. |
