The subheading of the article your cited is literally starts like this:

"Regulators have no plans to ban gas stoves..."

No one is coming to take your gas stove away.

As for NYC, that decision was made two years ago for new construction going forward - it's not retroactive. Two years ago, no one cared. Why is it an issue now?
