It depends on who's using the term and what their agenda is. And although recent polls have shown that the majority of Americans don't have a problem with being "woke" and see it as a positive thing, the article points out the flaws in the polling protocols that make it difficult to determine their accuracy.
Personally, I am proud to consider myself "woke" because in my mind it represents someone who is concerned about issues of social justice and inclusivity, among other good things that any society should strive for. It is NOT a socialist or communist concept (although those who throw those terms around usually have little to no clear concept of what those two philosophies actually entail).
