"Party of 40 people with 2 servers. The 2 servers split the tip left, end of the story. Do the other employees split their tips? Nope, so it's theirs. I'd hire an attorney. 2 servers handling 20 people each, they worked their behinds off, they get it, and luck of the draw. Shameful owner."
Agreed, 100%. Also, shouldn't it be up to the tipper to determine who gets the tip? The restaurant has no established policy on tipping - the owner just decided that the tip was so big that everyone should get a share. The customer said he called in advance to make sure it was OK, owner says that never happened. He said, she said, BUT if you don't have an established policy on how tips will be disbursed, you really shouldn't be able to make it up as you go.
The waitress thought she was entitled to half the tip, which is what the customer intended. The owner says no, you only get 20% this time, so her share went from $2200 to $880. She complained to the tipper, several days later she's fired. The owner won't say why she was fired after 3 years of service but denies it had anything to do with the tip. Right - one thing had nothing to do with the other, you just decided suddenly that you didn't need her anymore... PR disaster for the restaurant because the owner was acting like a moron. I would hope the owner loses his shirt, but there are others there relying on the employment. |
