SI believe she got fired because she called the tipper days later and embarrassed the establishment. How did she get that information? Policy in every restaurant I ever worked at states you cannot discuss the tip or lack thereof with the person who left it. Let's say you got stiffed and ran after them and made a rude comment or perhaps gave back a .01 tip left and commented to them. It's grounds for termination. Have I done it, yes, many servers have when just fed up. These people waste your time, take up valuable tables that make money and can turn over, only to leave you a dollar at the end. It's not for bad service, it's because they are cheap. I have already run after and given them their dollar back...I could have been fired, but sometimes you just have had it with people.
Would I have called the tipper here? No way. I believe they should have split it 50-50 between the 2 servers, they pay their taxes on it. If they do not split tips, this is theirs. If it's a place where it all goes into the communal tip jar, then yes, but I don't think that's the case. If they did, everyone helps everyone then, not just those 2 servers handling the event, but all servers. I would have sent the newspaper and local TV station a nice editorial feature to run a story here and in the least bad publicity for that owner. |
