Real bummer Carolyn. I hope you both feel better soon. Some of us have been preaching this to death and others pretend it just doesn't exist. No one in our area wears masks anymore, so it must not exist? It's sad to read that some here in this forum claim it doesn't exist in their area. Talk about living under a rock.
I still wear a mask and gloves. I wear a mask with a replaceable filter. My wife and co-workers still wear masks all day at work and when shopping. I was at Costco the other day, the only one in the entire store with a mask and gloves on. What a sight I must have been. One lady looked at me and gave me an approving smile, but she had no mask. Such is life.
Last week we turned down an RSVP for a picnic get-together. The same day however, we did a drive-by graduation. People still doing that? I was surprised. They rented a dunk tank and stood back as we got out of the car and pitched a few balls to dunk the graduate. There are still ways to have fun and share gifts.
My older sister and her husband returned from Yellowstone several weeks ago and tested positive. They could have caught it anywhere though. Sis was in bed for 2 weeks and now has bronchitis. My bro-in-law is among the "aint no big deal" crowd and said he felt like it was just a bad cold. He got worse and now cannot smell, though he joked today and said others tell him he stinks. That's his humor.
We are heading to Yosemite later this month and then to Carmel by the sea. I really can't remember when we've gone anywhere except local day trips up and down the coast. We have plenty of experience being cautious, and one place we're staying at sterilizes and keeps the rooms empty a day between guests. Great thinking.
I still dodge people and admit to our friends that, yes I'm an isolationist, sorry. I keep crazy busy and my Calendar is full so I'm not giving up a thing. Friends who want to take chances with Covid and then want to hang out....well, see-ya!
You both put up a good fight to stay healthy and have been a good encouragement. Thank you. Can we get it? Sure. But we will keep trying our best to be safe. Social distancing and masks. Best to you both and to everyone else.
