I'm setting aside for the moment the question of whether some of the companies involved want to do remote notarizations in the US. For international notarizations by US notaries, I think this would become a service offered by a few specialized companies. Consider what a notary would be up against:
-Be located in a state that allows a big enough fee to make it worthwhile
-Have access to whatever databases would be used to do the enhanced ID check, whatever it turns out to be
-Figure out which foreign countries allow it, when most of the countries will not have considered the issue and not have a ready answer. If you get it wrong, the client could get arrested or deported, and if the notary ever visits the country in question, could be arrested or turned back at the border.
-If any law suits come out of the transaction, the legal fees will go through the roof due to the international nature of the litigation, even if the notary is in the right.
Only big players will be in a position to figure this out. |
