I'm going to quibble with CH2inCA's statement "You must complete a certificate for each notarial act."
The two most common notarial acts in the NSA business are TAKING an acknowledgement and administering an oath about the truthfulness of one document. Taking one acknowledgement of one signature from one person is a one notarial act. Administering one oath to one person about the truthfulness of one document is one notarial act. Each of these notarial acts must be memorialized in a certificate signed (and in CA, sealed) by the notary.
If, for example, three people met with the notary on one occasion and acknowledged their respective signatures one document, in CA all three people could be named in one certificate. Three notarial acts, one certificate.
In my state, I have to use a different certificate depending on whether a person is signing for him/herself, or is a representative. I could combine several names in one certificate if each one is signing for him/herself, but not if they were signing as representatives. |
