False equivalency
Posted by MikeC/TX of TX on 8/23/17 4:55pm Msg #70779
ISIS does that stuff because of their warped religious beliefs.

The statue was toppled by protesters who objected to a monument dedicated to a traitor and which represents a belief system that conflicts with American values.

When the Revolutionary War started, Patriots tore down a statue of King George. When Baghdad fell, citizens toppled statues of Saddam Hussein. Do you also equate those actions to what ISIS does when it destroys historical treasures?

For those upset about the fact that removing the Confederate monuments is somehow erasing history, relax - there are these remarkable things called "books" and "museums" and "cemeteries" and "battlefields" where all of that history is preserved. Monuments to traitors have no place on public streets.
