"Please note " " marks on discovered."
I realize that; perhaps the correct term should be "found" or even "stumbled across"?
As far as I know, there's no longer any dispute that the Vikings were the first Europeans to set foot on this continent. There is also evidence that the Knights Templar may have reached what is now Canada years before Columbus accidentally bumped into what is now called Hispaniola while trying to find India.
My original point was that the myth of Columbus was created by Washington Irving and is still being taught in schools as if it were truth today. It's 100+ years of pure BS and is still being fed to school children.
In fact, Columbus was a nasty SOB who enslaved, brutalized, and murdered the natives he came across in a quest for gold they didn't have. He never set foot on the American continent, so the idea that he somehow "discovered" or "found" America is just nonsense.
Any monuments to him should be removed, along with the holiday in his name -- can we at least agree on that point? |
