Accents on accents, as a Broadcasting management speech major, Ive noticed more than the average person on pronunciations. I had a Spanish class in college with an extreme southern brogue which was a distraction in concentrating on things like syntax etc. Then the following semester I had an upper math class with a professor who had almost the same southern brogue.
Anyway, in Oklahoma, the word fire is pronounced faaaaaaaar! It was said in a religion class that some thought the wise men were firemen because they came from afaaaaaaaar.
My favorite orator from the past was the late Paul Harvey. His command of the English language was nothing short of amazing. |
