I think one of the things about our language that must drive people trying to learn it crazy is the inconsistencies of pluralization. Think about it:

house-> houses; mouse->mice
moose->mooses; goose-> geese
fox -> foxes; ox-> oxen

I'm sure you can come up with others. There's no rule - how do you learn a language that has no rules?
