Indoor reception will also depend on what your exterior walls are made of if you're not facing a window.
You may have a 'faraday cage' if exterior walls have metal studs or concrete and rebar. The problem is, you need to face the location of the transmitter(s) which may not be towards the window.

My small indoor antenna is tucked behind the large screen TV, out of physical view, facing an exterior wood stud wall and I get fantastic HD reception from the channels I do pick up.
I'm sort of remote. Large metro areas get many more channels.
For those who have never viewed Roku, it's not a one-service device, i.e. just the Roku station of channels. It's a forever growing list of services and channels that is mind-boggling. For instance, it has abbreviated NBC, CBS and WSJ news channels among others. No FOX, CNN or CNBC. Thus, the need for off-air.
