Why did this guy call me? How did he find me?? I have no idea, but I answered his questions and recommended he contact his mother's attorney who prepared her trust, and he thought that was a great idea, but still was hotter than hell over some random notary notarizing for a person who clearly was at death's door and in no way clear or understanding the nature of the document she was signing.
I'm pretty sensitive to these circumstances, as my own father's stepchildren managed to empty his bank account and were in the process of selling his house to a neighbor when he passed suddenly and only contacted me that he was gone. I hired an attorney, got the house, but the cash was nowhere to be recovered.
I feel that these kinds of assignments are risky enough for seasoned notaries. I posted this primarily for newbies who are not experienced in these matters as cautionary, but it was certainly enlightening to hear everyone's opinions and views. |
