For RON, the companies I've seen act like a signing service as well as a RON platform.
They're like a signing service because the hiring party contacts the company like Notarize or DocVerify, and that company finds an enotary to handle the notarizations.
But it's also a RON platform, providing the knowledge-based-authentication and credential analysis to identify the signer*, providing the video link, recording the video, and storing the video. Also, actually applying the digital signature of the signers and notary to the document, when the signers and notary click in the appropriate spots to order that the digital signatures be applied.
It's possible that some of these steps might be outsourced by the platform, but that's invisible to the signer and the notary.
*Of course the notary also has a role in the identification, checking to see that the image of the ID card seen by the notary looks like the signer, and that the eye color, height, and weight are plausible. |
