I am on a hotline that listed in the NJ Notary Manual & I routinely get questions from various offices across the country. I just rec'd one of these & the caller told me that a NJ Notary notarized a document for a California Property. While this is done all the time it would be great if this notary knew what he/she was doing. It was explained to me that at the top, it says California acknowledgement. The Notary filled in the correct info where needed, but because at the top it says California Acknowledgment, the document was bounced. According to the person I spoke to, the entire loan must be re-done & the Client's have now lost their rate lock. In closing, if the Notary in question did not know the answer, he/she should have asked. There are several areas where the question could be asked before the signing takes place. This is a prime example of why training is so needed & should be required before the Notary starts Notarizing. This could have been a simple overlook as well, but in this business everything signed must/should be free of any errors. |
