I think this is the key to how we can look at it here in CA. The restriction on charging for notarization related to VA benefits doesn't say anything about all the other activities that are routinely involved in a loan signing which don't fall under the jurisdiction of state notary law. The actual notarization of signatures in a loan package is typically a very, very small portion of the overall service. So it may just be a matter of bookkeeping and documentation, as Beverly/CA indicated.
If it's a GNW appointment, then of course we need to keep in mind this easily overlooked provision. |
