"in California I know as a notary can not also witnesses a document that we notarize."
What is this conclusion based on? I'm not aware of anything in CA notary law that addresses this. There seem to be some differences of opinion on this, so I'd appreciate being enlightened if this is, in fact, the case.
I can think of many situations where witnesses have been requested, in addition to a notarization, e.g. with an AHD. Usually, that's up to the document recipient, not us, but I don't believe CA notary law requires any. Many of the requests I see may be from out of state documents.
