Wow, that's definitely good to know. I think I'll visit the bank again for clarification before investing in an elder law consultation. My father-in-law has no estate (just the belongings he brought to his memory care facility & enough coming in monthly to cover expenses), and he unfortunately has no contact with family/friends other than us after many years of deception and large unpaid debts. We travel often and move frequently for work. Overseeing his account online to make sure his expenses are paid & any nonsensical checks he writes get cancelled sounds doable, but the idea of legal guardianship/conservatorship is dizzying. |
