Thanks, I have been applying Lidocaine and the rash spots are just starting to dry up as of today. For most people those are the cause of pain. I had some burning, still a bit, but my major pain is internal.
PHN (post herpetic neuralgia) is now my big concern. From a post I read:
"Unvaccinated patients who get shingles have about a 1/3 chance of getting post-herpetic neuralgia, where the pain continues for months or years (or forever) after the rash heals. If someone gets shingles after the shots, the chance of PHN is "only" 10%. After a year or so, the pain goes down to "annoying" from "Oy Vey." The shots are highly recommended.
I assume your doc prescribed antiviral meds as soon as the diagnosis was made, which also reduces the chance of PHN."
I highly recommend you get the new SHINGRIX vaccines to avoid a life-long bout with post herpetic neuralgia. Unfortunately, all our immune systems weaken due to age, use of medications, and other mitigating health issues. |
