Instead of choosing not to follow instructions, you admit that you just didn’t read them. Is that supposed to make the situation you are now facing better? If I were the BOs I’d be livid. We, of all people, know the personal and confidential information contained in those documents — actually much more than with credit breaches. I don’t understand that you can’t understand the consequences of not knowing the whereabouts of loose documents.

No one is claiming to be better than you or know more than you. You made a Notary101 mistake. Here is friendly advice that won’t help you with the situation you are now facing, but if you choose to heed for future — if you don’t wish to bind or band, at least double seal. Put documents in a Manila envelope with address being sent on Manila envelope, seal and insert in outside shipping envelope, and read instructions.
