You are lucky your package didn't come back to title smelling like a kitty litter box. Fed Ex ships human urine samples for drug testing. Often times the shipping materials for the urine samples will break open during transport and spill out everywhere, including on the cardboard envelopes containing loan documents. I heard this first hand from an employee for Fed Ex. We all know of one poor notary who this happened to, she was devastated! Ever since I read about her tragic story, I have never used a cardboard envelope since.
I am sorry you had a bad experience with your documents. The title company asked you to use a plastic envelope, and this is probably one of the many reasons they requested that. Not to mention your documents were not secured properly within the envelope and are now more than likely scattered across the countryside which is why the borrowers are being offered a credit monitoring program for the next two years more than likely.
I am impressed at the amount of volume you have done over your years as a notary signing agent. You got lucky if this is your first package that broke open during transit . . . I bet that will never happen to you again because hopefully you will use plastic envelopes rather than cardboard ones.
