Your liability is limited to your notary acknowledgment. After all, our duty as notaries is to properly identify the individual signing before us, who has presented current and valid identification.
Keeping a journal of these entries is key to our business and to providing the proof of our notary participation. Sounds like grandson may have usurped his powers and relationship with his grandmother. This is not unusual. I exercise extreme caution in these matters.
