The Board of Elections in Randolph County, GA, is proposing to permanently close 7 of 9 voting precincts in the county prior to the 11/6 election, making it difficult or impossible for many in the predominantly black county to vote. The population of the county is 60% black, double the rate throughout the rest of the state. The weak reason given by the Board is that the 7 are not compliant with the ADA - a situation, if true, that has existed for years with no move to address it - so rather than address the problem they'll just eliminate the locations altogether, forever. This raises the obvious questions - why is this an issue now, and why couldn't they find alternate locations?

They're not even trying to hide it anymore - they're doing it in the open, and figuring that the voters are too stupid to figure it out. |
