I suggest that in-person notarization may not be available in many areas. As a somewhat different change in how business is done because of progress in electronics, if an antenna cable broke, I used to be able to drive over to Radio Shack and buy some repair parts. Now I have order parts on the internet and wait for UPS to deliver them.
For a concrete example of in-person notarization fading away, consider that Vermont notaries are now required to submit their oaths of office electronically. For the time being, the suggested way to do it is go to a traditional notary, have the notary administer the oath on paper, scan the oath, and upload the oath to the Office of Professional Regulation. But how long will it be before only electronically notarized oaths will be accepted? Someone's bound to mention in-person electronic notarization, but as far as I can tell, that approach has been left by the wayside. |
