| Last year's bill didn't make it out of the senate and thus died in committee. However, there are 2 bills in the CA legislature this year. One of which is a direct pick up of where we left off last year that we support. It contains all the good things that we have fought for over the years, some of which include; a new notarial act for notaries, liability protections for notaries, data privacy for notaries and signers, and the ever coveted jurisdictional protections. The other bill is a bill sponsored by notarize and some other platforms that we don't support. As you can imagine, the bill is very favorable to technology yet isn't so notary friendly and strips the public of their ability to file an action against a platform in the event that platform causes damage to the consumer. We are early in the legislative process but we do expect each bill to pass out of their respective chamber and then face a reconciliation process. |
