Good point about potential decline in notaries - and lack of options for emergencies. From my experience, it's very possible there will always be those who decide to "get their notary..." just to have. I've run across many over the years who've said that. But they often don't bother renewing. For one thing, here at least, it's expensive and time consuming. However, with online notarizations readily available for the vast majority, that could well change.
Another factor that'll be interesting to watch is whether or not the probable cost increase will have an impact on consumers. At generally $25(?) a pop for RON (IDK if that's per notarization or per signature), it's more than even we charge here (for one signature). BUT that doesn't include a mobile service fee, while still providing close to the same level of convenience for most.
BTW, I also agree that keeping mobile notaries working isn't a compelling "reason for lawmakers and regulators to disallow RON". It'll be 'interesting' (to put it one way...) to see how this all rolls out.
