If I was going to do it, I would follow Dr Berg. He is very knowledgeable. He also believes in intermittent fasting. I sort of do that daily, eating my 2nd, and last, meal of the day between 2 and 3PM and fast until breakfast (coming up) after a mile+ walk. So that is like, 17-18 hours each day fasting? You won't need to count calories; you just WILL burn them off. I dropped 25 lbs back in Oct-Nov and maintain my HS weight which was/is pretty fit for me.

That said, my used-to-be massage therapist was big on keto and had a stroke. May have been random, may also have been the saturated fats used in keto.
My preferred diet is taught by Dr Esselstyn, a heart and artery specialist. His patients don't die. This is a solid part of my afternoon meal (a lot of it from the garden) along with homemade lentils, or any other soup. My side of the fridge <g> consists of a number of prepared containers that I rotate for salad ingredients. I don't consider them salads as much as a full meal (and tasty). I also have pre-packaged veggies like cauliflower, broccoli, etc., ready to nuke. Takes about 2 minutes. The greens and the veggies and the 2 meals a day will drop about a pound a day and then your weight just stabilizes when it is ready to. I can have a pizza and beer night (tonight), get back on it tomorrow, and no change. Reward is good.

The biggest thing you can learn from Dr Esselstyn, which keto dieters IMO fail to master, is how your endothelial system (that keeps you alive) functions and reacts to what you eat. IMO, keto is a ticking time bomb. If you feel you need to go that route, intermittent fasting and exercise will still help. I would also keep it short lived. JMHO.
